Whether you’re a novelist, course-creator, journalist, or blogger, our Writer’s Workshop Retreat is the perfect opportunity to escape all distractions, relax in the peaceful Balinese mountains and just… write.
We’ll provide daily creativity and focus-enhancing meditations, optional nature treks and yoga sessions, massages and delicious healthy food on-call. But most importantly, we’ll provide as many daily hours of silence and solitude as you need to write the story that’s been bubbling up inside of you.
Each evening, for those who are interested, we’ll have the opportunity to share and workshop our day’s writing with the other like-minded authors in the group. Your creativity is precious and unique to YOU, so no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are as a writer, you can trust that this will be a safe space to share your craft with a positive, encouraging, and helpful group of people.
By the end of the 10 days, you may find yourself with a completed manuscript, infused with the magic of the Balinese spirit.
is a traditional Balinese village overlooking a rice-field terraced valley in the shadow of the volcano Agung, the holiest mountain in Bali. This is a writer’s dream location to get away and get writing.
Imagine golden mist rising up from the green hillside as you set pen to paper (or fingertips to keyboard), breathe in the cool mountain air, and let your writer’s passion course through you.
that when Bali, the “island of the gods,” was first settled by ancient explorers from neighboring islands, the spirit presence on the island was so powerful and hostile that the settlers were unable to live in peace. The spirits acted as gatekeepers to the gods of the island, and humans were not allowed access. In time, the early settlers learned that if they made offerings from nature to the hostile spirits—flower petals, grains, water, fire—that the spirits would grant them peace to inhabit the island and live in harmony with the other realms.
This practice continues to this day, with the Balinese people laying out daily offerings of flowers and incense, serving as guardians for the human visitors to the Island of the Gods. The spirits here remain just as powerful and tangible as ever, and they often find their way into writers’ works. Bali is the most powerful creativity-inducing location on earth.

I’m Megan, the founder of Yogatrotter. My passion for writing started as a child and continues to this day, with a concentration in Writing and Rhetoric from Villanova University and a career as a freelance writer and editor.
I spent three years teaching yoga and studying Buddhist meditation in central Japan before moving to Bali two years ago to teach yoga philosophy and postures at teacher trainings around Asia. My writing recently has focused on modern re-tellings of Hindu mythological stories, inspired by the Balinese culture.
From this passion formed a nagging dream to escape the world for a while, remove all distractions, and let the stories flow through me and onto paper. I’ve been searching for the perfect location in nature to do this ever since, and I believe I found it in Sidemen, Bali.
